同里古镇介绍：
        同里，旧称“富土”；唐初，因其名太奢，改为“铜里”；宋代，又将旧名“富土”两字相叠，上去点，中横断，拆字为“同里”，沿用至今。
        从踏进同里古镇的那一刻开始，您的旅程已注定充满诗情画意了。同里是一座幽雅恬静的居住型江南古镇，既有“小桥、流水、人家”的水乡景致，又有“东方小威尼斯”的人文情调。这里古典园林、名人故居、小桥流水、老街深巷随处可见，每一寸土地都散发着浓郁的江南气息，只等你来细细品味。
同里镇位于江苏省吴江市，距苏州仅18公里，因环境优美、物产丰富，自古便有许多宦官富绅、文人雅士在此造园建宅，退居养老。镇内尚存明清两代宅院30多处，崇本堂、嘉荫堂、耕乐堂等都是明清私家园林的经典之作，退思园布局精巧，淡雅秀美，已被列入世界文化遗产。行走在古镇上，这些拥有数百年、上千年历史的古迹及文化遗产，总会不期然地出现在你眼前，让你惊喜不已。
        同里小镇依河而建，因镇内水网纵横，故有风格迥异的桥梁55座，且多为自宋至清所建的古桥，其中镇内最古老思本桥已有700多年的历史。最有名的是三桥，同里人家添丁、婚嫁、做寿都有“过三桥”的习俗，祈求太平、美满、吉利。到了同里，您当然要走一走三桥，把美好的希望寄托在这里。
        明清街是明清年代沿用至今的古街，保持着传统的建筑风格，也延续着古朴而繁华的气息。古街上琳琅满目的风味小吃、刺绣工艺、古玩字画，供你大快朵颐、尽情采购，如果你是一位古董收藏爱好者，没准会在某个不起眼的摊头淘到历史的遗留呢！

TongLi Profile：
    Originally named Futu(rich land), the place was renamed as Tongli(copper village) in the first years of the Tang Dynasty. Later on, the name of this place was changed once again into Tongli(fellow villager) during the Song Dynasty and, what’s more, it was administered as a town. According to the textural research made by some archiologists, the forefathers fo Tongli inhabitants began to have laboured, lived and multiplied on this land as early as 5 or even 6 thousand years ago.
    Tongli, a water township in Jiangsu province, with delightful scenery in peace and tranquility, well-known for its "low bridges, running water and small villages", has won its fame of "Venice in the east". All these make your trip full of poetic and artistic imagination from the moment you arrive here. Famous places of historical interests, featured civilian architecture, private gardens, small bridges and running waters as well as old streets and deep alleys are everywhere, give you a picture of the south of the lower reaches of the Yangze River which is waiting for you to go over and have a closer look at.
    Tongli lies on Wujiang city and away from Suzhou city 18 km, due to the charming environment and abundance, in ancient times, many noblemen and distinguish families built their private gardens here in succession. While over 30 residential gardens built in Ming & Qing Dynasties include Chongben Hall, Jiayin Hall, and Gengle Hall are the most classic ones. Among them, Tuisi Garden has small exquisite courtyard and gardens with a classical elegance and harmony, it has been assessed as the World Culture Legacy. Walking around here, you would always be amazed by these architectural clusters and cultural relics which their history could be dated back to hundred or even thousand years ago.
    Surrounded by water, Tongli Town has more than 55 bridges which were built in Song Dynasty and Qing Dynasty with different styles. The oldest one, Siben Bridge, has over 700 years history. There is a custom in Tong Li, "Walking over 3 Bridges". These bridges are Tai Ping Bridge, Jili Bridge and Changqing Bridge. In wedding ceremony, people believe that newlyweds will live together forever after passing them. In the birthday of 66 years, old people will pass them after the lunch for their long life, or to pray happiness and good fortune for a new baby. “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”, you ought to go and leave your wish there.
    On the Mingqing Street (a Shopping Street), there're dozens of well-preserved ones built in Ming & Qing Dynasties of antique beauty. A good variety of flavor snacks stands, embroidery crafts, antique shops, will let you have a good appetite and enjoy yourselves to the shopping of the superb collection of beautiful things. For an antique lover, he or she might find a historical remaining here, just at an unremarkable stand.
